A Question ... Answered.

A visitor to the recent 'Friends' stand at La Viaer Machi asked us a question about the trees in St Julians Avenue. He remembered seeing a photo of his dad working there but did not know any more about when this might have taken place.

Well thanks to Liz Hutchins, a Friend and a keen researcher for the following information:

'I found the article on the trees in St Julians avenue, it was in the book ' 50 years of freedom' it says that;

'' the 121 elms which lined St Julians Avenue were felled during the early days of January 1949, by a team of 25 men working for the contractor Jack Hodder, they took 8 days to fell and clear up and were replaced by Norwegian maples'' '

So our thanks to Liz for helping out and if you have a question for a member of the Friends researcher team, just get in touch via the email  web@priaulxlibrary.co.uk

Quiz Night 2011
This year's quiz was again well attended by many of the Friends of the Priaulx Library, with thirteen teams taking part in a well-fought contest of mental ability, acquired knowledge, amassed trivia, and lucky guesses!

This year the competition was won by 'Class Act', who took the prize with a score of 143.

The event was held at Les Rocquettes Hotel and was once again run by the excellent quiz- master Sean McManus.  Whilst the scores were being counted the “Friends” held a raffle, once again with some fantastic prizes.  During the evening we raised over £500. This is a great figure and will go a long way in helping us to support the work that is carried out by the Library.

Thank you for your continued support.
